History

In September of 2000, a small effort began to fight back against the growing problem of online cheating. With the first release of the PunkBuster™ anti-cheat system, a new hope was born. It was finally possible to fight back against cheating.

For more than 15 years, Even Balance, Inc. has been the industry leader in the race to fight cheating. As the industry leader in anti-cheat, PunkBuster has been successfully integrated into dozens of titles, monitored millions of players, and successfully detected hundreds of thousands of cheaters.

Philosophy

The staff members at Even Balance, Inc. work daily to research and detect the programs that cheaters use to gain an unfair advantage. We recognize that modern video game engines are extremely complex pieces of software and, as such, are extremely vulnerable to the destructive mindset of cheaters. We also recognize that the methods that cheaters use change constantly as they try to avoid detection. For these reasons, PunkBuster is made to be extremely agile in it's design. PunkBuster's software components can be updated frequently to give cheaters a moving target, turning their primary focus from cheating in the game to avoiding detection.

PunkBuster's memory scanning technology works much like an anti-virus program by objectively scanning computer memory looking for signs that a cheat is loaded.
