Tuesday 01.18.2005 [5:30PM]

Version 1.128 of the PB Server for BF1942 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. With this update, we ask admins to try out the new pb_sv_pktSendMode setting documented below and let us know if there are any problems. This should be considered beta testing of a new feature.

Release Notes for PB Server v1.128:

  • new pb_sv_pktSendMode setting defaults to 0 which means PB will continue to use the old netcode used in prior versions; setting to 1 tells PB to use the new netcode which sends out of band (OOB) packets to connected clients in an effort to address numerous network I/O related problems including kicking for 'losing key packets'; some admins who have pretested the new netcode report that it does not work well for them so be prepared to watch your server(s) closely; consider this an option that may or may not be right for your server(s)
  • addressed bug with PB's Bad Name Facility not warning/kicking properly

Saturday 01.15.2005 [4:00PM]

We have reworked the PB Server netcode and produced a test PB Server binary v1.125 for linux. The goal is to address network I/O problems with PB packets which cause many negative symptoms (primarily "losing key packets" kicking). Linux server admins who wish to test this beta PB Server binary can get it from here. Please let us know via our new support ticket system how this version works on your linux servers. Pending feedback, the new netcode will be optionally available for all platforms upon the next PB Server update release.

Friday 01.14.2005 [2:15PM]

Version 1.124 of the PB Server for BF1942 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This version converts some prior PB Violation kicks into Restriction kicks. We have confirmed that several gamehack violations (#81001-81014) triggered since the prior PB Server update on 12.11.2004 in BF1942 could have been caused by files or memory that were corrupted by non-cheat programs such as virii, adware, no-cd programs, etc. We encourage PB Admins to give players the benefit of the doubt for these violations.

Saturday 02.07.2004 [8:00PM]

The initial roll out of PunkBuster for Battlefield 1942 has gone smoothly. We will be adding detection patterns and routines for all public (and many private) BF1942 cheats/hacks during the next few days. As a friendly notice to the BF1942 community, this news post is made about the topic of permanent PB bans. As with other games that are supported by PB, if a player is caught by PB with a hack or cheat that directly modifies PB or interferes with any PB function (including the ability to take accurate screenshots), that player's PB GUID will be immediately subject to permanent ban from ALL PB enabled servers without recourse. It is in direct violation of PunkBuster's license agreement to attempt to use PunkBuster software in a manner not consistent with PunkBuster's design and purpose. This is an issue we take very seriously and for which we do not give extra chances. If you are an honest player or admin, DO NOT attempt to test cheats that interfere with PB on public PB enabled servers. Regardless of what the punks say on their various websites, none of their hacks are undetectable by PunkBuster. If you are caught with one of the hacks that interferes with PB and your GUID is permanently banned from all PB Servers, we will not remove your GUID from the ban list even if you were "testing" or even if another member of your family got caught when using your computer. You will still be able to play the game on and/or host servers that have PunkBuster disabled.

Friday 02.06.2004 [3:00PM]

Version 1.070 of the PB Client for BF1942 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. We will shortly be releasing a new optional PB MD5Tool Facility for PB Server Admins who want to check files on connected player systems to detect changed game files. Players are hereby warned that any detected attempts to circumvent PB's new MD5Tool file checks will subject the Player's GUID/CDKey to permanent Global PB GUID Ban with no recourse.

Release Notes for PB Client v1.070:

  • new pb_logmd5tool setting defaults to 0; setting to 1 will cause PB to log all MD5Tool file check query replies sent to connected PB Servers during gameplay

Friday 01.09.2004 [8:30AM]

During the days immediately following the release of Battlefield 1942 v1.6 with PunkBuster integration, we will be focusing on support issues as the community uses PunkBuster for the first time. After a few days, we will begin to add new cheat detections and features. If you need help with PunkBuster issues, please email support@evenbalance.com and be sure to specify that you are a BF1942 Player or Admin in the email along with as many details as possible. Note that PunkBuster is installed during setup of the game update patch. Players can enable PunkBuster via a checkbox on the Multiplayer screen. We will be providing links to PB for BF1942 manuals near the top of this page.
